Tournament Do’s and Don’ts

ANDI POLISKY

When playing tournaments, we hope you’ll follow these best practices to make the event better for all participants.

DO…enter early.

DO…be proactive. If you have time issues during the tournament, please ask the director before the draw is made, not after you see your times.

DO…take the time to read the entire website before asking questions that could be already covered.

DO…thank the umpires. They don’t have an easy job.

DO…ask early if looking for a doubles partner.

DO…check the draw after your match for times instead of asking the tournament desk.

DO…make sure the desk has the proper contact info. Things can change.

DO…make sure you have paid entry before the first match.

DO…check the seedings when posted. After the draw is too late to challenge.

DO…pull out before the draw is made to receive a refund.

DO…honor the backdraw.

DO…fill out the survey from the USTA at the end of the event.

DON'T...enter if you are not able to commit to all the days scheduled. It’s not fair to opponents.

DON'T...if you know you are not able to play the next match, please retire before the match is completed so your opponents can move forward. It's the right thing to do.

DON'T...continually ask the desk for special scheduling or courts. Once is enough.

DON'T...be late for matches without alerting the desk. Defaults can happen.
