Tournament Recap: Wilson World Tennis Classic

The Wilson World Tennis Classic was once again held at the Shadow Mountain Resort. There were nearly 60 events and over 750 players playing in the Level I Mixed and the Level II Men’s and Women’s singles and doubles.

Played at 8 different clubs in the Valley, player check-in was held at the main site, Shadow Mountain. A nice gift bag was given with various goodies including a set of string donated by the lead sponsor, Wilson Sporting Goods. On site this year for the first time was a player lounge sponsored by both the NWTO and the NMSTA (soon to be the NMTA!). Each member was given access to snacks, drinks, a free 15 minute stretch and a nice place to relax in between matches.

The NWTO desk was placed right outside the tent where players received a pen and their raffle ticket for the raffle held during the player party. We had over 15 members volunteer their time for the 7 days the desk was available and they were able to sign up a dozen new members. That is close to 10% of the entrants who weren’t members already.

On Thursday night the player party was held with an open bar, heavy hors d'oeuvres, and a raffle for all members of the NWTO and the NMSTA. The big winner of a Wilson racket and a set of strings was Mai Abel.
