🎾 Love — and Tennis — at the Husband-Wife Hardcourts
The USTA National Husband-Wife Hardcourts, held at the award-winning Biszantz Family Tennis Center at Claremont McKenna College, was the final event in the year’s series of USTA Husband-Wife Nationals — hard, clay, grass, and indoor.
Couples arrived ready for fun, camaraderie, and competition — with only minimal marriage counseling required. 😉 With nearly 40 teams playing across six divisions, NWTO members ruled the event (with just a little help from their partners).
Fun – The traditional Friday Night Taco Party landed on Halloween, which naturally turned into a costume party. The players did not disappoint — creativity (and competitive spirit) were on full display! Perhaps the most popular accessory of the weekend? The baseball caps, pictured below, that read “Sorry About My Husband.” Let’s just say they captured the tournament’s mix of humor, honesty, and happily married competition perfectly.
Camaraderie – The tournament welcomed both new and returning teams this year. While a few couples were first-timers, most are repeat participants who come back to Claremont — and to the other Husband-Wife events — year after year. These enduring traditions have fostered lasting friendships among teams from every corner of the country, making the tournament so much more than just a sporting event.
Competition – NWTO members were woven throughout each division and captured Gold Balls in four of the six — congratulations to Kathy Settles, Kathy Archibald, Brenda Williams, and Gail Ashbrooke! Hats off to all who competed, for mastering the art of sharing both the tennis court and the love of the game.
