Margaret M. Russo Sportsmanship Award
The Margaret M. Russo Sportsmanship Award, established in 2005, is presented annually by the NWTO to a member who exemplifies outstanding sportsmanship both on and off the court. Margaret, a longtime NWTO member, epitomized sportsmanship as well as excellence in play, and this award honors her legacy. Nominees must be recognized by their peers for their love of the game, respect for opponents, and concern for fellow competitors.

Belmar Gunderson Leadership Award
The Belmar Gunderson Leadership Award, established in 2023, is presented annually by the NWTO to a member who reflects the vision, humility, honesty, and compassion that made Belmar such an inspiration. Belmar dedicated herself tirelessly to senior women’s tennis, welcoming countless new members and working to create safe, friendly, and competitive opportunities year after year. The award honors a member whose leadership and consistent participation in age-division events embody this same commitment.

NWTO Lifetime Achievement Award
The NWTO Lifetime Achievement Award honors a member whose lifetime in tennis reflects extraordinary achievement, longevity, and contribution to the sport. This award celebrates a body of work built over decades—on the court and beyond—that has meaningfully shaped women’s tennis and inspired others through sustained excellence and engagement.
Recipients are recognized for distinguished competitive accomplishments, long-term participation in age-division tennis, and a deep commitment to the game across multiple stages of life. Contributions may include national or international competition, mentorship of fellow players, advocacy for women’s tennis, promotion of sportsmanship and fair play, and service that has strengthened the tennis community.
This award recognizes a tennis life well played—defined not by a single title or season, but by enduring impact, presence, and passion for the game.
