The Level 1 Indoors for the even age groups was played at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, Washington September 6-10, 2023. With such beautiful weather in the 70s, it could’ve been played outside.

Playing on the 5 indoor courts made the event intimate and friendly, with players of all ages meeting new friends and catching up with others. The 70 and 80’s divisions were well attended and played traditional draws, while the younger ones played a round robin format. All play was 2 out of 3 sets, regular scoring, even in the consolation matches.

The ladies team members of the club provided wonderful homemade lunches the first two days. The chicken salad curry sandwiches were an especially big hit. A hummus platter along with a cheese platter was our lunch for Friday with a taco bar for the Friday night player dinner. Soup and a half sandwich for Saturday’s players and croissant sandwiches for Sunday rounded out the hospitality.

Holly, the head referee, managed multiple matches at once and helped everything run smoothly. Tournament director, Nancy Ansboury, provided an insulated lunch tote as the player gift bag. Along with a new can of balls and a Kind bar, there was a monogrammed tin of mint M & M’s: some had a tennis ball, some had the club’s initials and some had ‘2023 Nationals’.
