We rely on volunteerism!

The National Women’s Tennis Organization is excited to be celebrating 50 years of advocating for and supporting women’s tennis nationwide. For those of you new to NWTO, we are an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization working hard to foster opportunities for competition in age-level events. It takes many volunteers to keep our work going. We are featuring our committees to let everyone know what opportunities we have to give back to this wonderful tennis community.

Where do your talents fit? Reach out to us at info@nwto.us if you’d like to learn more and can help.

Communications

Do you have a talent for writing or enjoy taking photos and working with social media? The communications committee is here to keep you informed about all things senior age-level tennis. In our monthly e-newsletter, we give updates from NWTO leadership and the USTA and include informative articles on tournaments, fitness, health, and much more. Do you have a knack for writing and a story you’d like to report on, or have knowledge in an area of expertise such as health and fitness that would benefit our members? We are always in need of contributions to the newsletter. Our communications team also runs the NWTO social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram. Our volunteers take pictures at tournaments and help create content for social media posts.

Membership/Amenities

Do you like to meet new people? Would you like to tell them about our wonderful organization and encourage them to join? The membership/amenities committee would welcome your help. We maintain a table at many Level 1 and 2 tournaments where we explain our mission, enroll new members, and present our members with an exclusive amenity. We also provide tournaments with additional funds to augment what they offer to players. We would love to have you join us. Also, if anyone has experience with relational databases such as Microsoft Access or has experience with creating surveys using Google Forms or Typeform, let us know.

Philanthropy

Are you passionate about outreach? As a 501(c)(3) organization, NWTO prides itself on giving back to and supporting the tennis community at the grassroots level. As a way to support the next generation of players, our Philanthropy Committee develops the criteria and application for our annual Community Grant. In addition, this committee reviews the applications and recommends the recipients to the Board for approval. If you have a heart for Philanthropy, we’d love your perspective.

Intersectionals Committee

The Women’s Intersectional Event, which takes place each November, is the largest women’s event held annually in the country and is a marquee event for NWTO. As the main sponsor and organizer, we strive to educate and inform each USTA Section about this opportunity for their senior age-level players. Past actions of this committee have included surveying each USTA section to see what they are doing to support women’s tennis. Currently, this committee is working to get teams from each USTA Section in each age group to participate in the Intersectional event. If you live in a section that doesn’t currently send teams, let us know. We can work with you and your section to help facilitate the creation of teams.

New Ventures Committee

NWTO is constantly looking for ways we can use our reach to improve the experience of senior tennis and grow the number of players across the country playing in age-level tennis. This committee is working hard to identify the challenges present with regard to senior tournament play and strives to come up with practical solutions and an action plan we can implement to make the tournament experience better for all.

Auction Committee

As a fundraiser for the work NWTO is trying to accomplish, we have historically held an annual auction. In recent years, it has been an online auction held in the spring. Our auction committee solicits donations, creates descriptions for the items, and assists in running the online auction. In the past, popular items have included tickets to the US Open, various vacation homestays, tennis apparel and gear, jewelry, gift cards, and tournament entries. If you have the time and talent to help revamp our auction or have something great to donate, we’d love to hear from you.
