Celebrating the Life of Annette Mehren Buck
On February 21, 2026, we said goodbye to Annette Mehren Buck—a woman whose life was a masterclass in leadership, mentorship, and heart. Whether she was in a classroom or on a tennis court, Annette lived by a simple code: education and service come first.
A Foundation in Education Annette’s professional journey started in the classroom. After studying at USD and USC, she followed her calling to Woodland Hills, where she co-owned and operated her own elementary school. She wasn't just a principal; she was a builder of character, known for running a school that prioritized curiosity and confidence just as much as academics.
A Powerhouse in the Tennis World If you knew Annette, you knew tennis. Alongside her husband, Jim Buck, she spent decades growing the sport into the community it is today.
30 Years of Service: As the Director of Adult Tennis for USTA Southern California, she was the engine behind the adult leagues we know today.
Creating Opportunities: She launched the Southern California Intercollegiate Tournament and worked closely with Brad Parks to establish the International Wheelchair Tennis Open, ensuring that the game was accessible to everyone, regardless of ability.
Summers on the Cape: Many will remember her from the Wianno Club on Cape Cod, where she spent her summers blending her gift for organization with her love for the game.
A Lasting Legacy The tennis world took notice of her dedication early and often. In 1985, the Bucks were named the USTA Family of the Year, and in 2017, Annette and Jim received the ultimate honor: induction into the Southern California Tennis Association Hall of Fame.
Annette leaves behind more than just awards; she leaves a community that is stronger, more inclusive, and more connected because of her tireless work ethic and her genuine care for others.
