The National Hard Court Championships for the odd divisions were held October 23-29 at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA.

Playing on the 5 indoor courts made the event intimate and friendly, with players of all ages meeting new friends and catching up with others. The 70 and 80’s divisions were well attended and played traditional draws, while the younger ones played a round robin format. All play was 2 out of 3 sets, regular scoring, even in the consolation matches…

Since going over to London this summer for another tennis event and only being able to practice on grass (I got injured and couldn’t play the matches), I’ve been set on making it to the Grass Court Championships at the Mission Hills Country Club. I was supposed to make it last year but ended up having to cancel. And, I am so glad I made it! …

The 2023 ITF World Team Championships for the 55 and 60 age groups took place August 13 to 18 in Oeiras and Estoril, Portugal (just west of Lisbon). Overall, over 350 male and female players competed, with competitions spread out over three red clay venues…

The Friendship Cup has a rich history and successful story of establishing international camaraderie and sisterhood both on and off the court. The tradition started in 1967 when Walter Foeger of Vermont was looking to establish competitive senior tennis play in alliance with the New England Lawn Tennis Association (NELTA), now USTA New England. He contacted George Barta of the Canadian senior division, and together, they created the Friendship Cup. In that year, players competed on three courts at the Jay Peak Resort in Vermont…

This was my first time playing in the Grass Court Championships at Germantown Cricket Club. I’ve seen pictures but never imagined how big the club really was. The clubhouse is the first thing you see when you drive through the gates of the club. It is the original building from when the club was founded in 1854. Then, you look to the left and you see the huge field with 22 grass courts. It is impressive!

The Level 2 tournament in Asheville, North Carolina, wound up on Friday, July 14, 2023. This was the 91st year of this tournament!

The 14th Ralph and Mary Wilson Friendship Cup, held in beautiful Villach, Austria, ended with the International Team besting the US team, 15-9. Points were decided counting 1 point for each singles match and 2 points for the doubles.

The La Jolla 50s Nationals started with overcast skies but beautiful temperatures for tennis. Every time I come to one of the national tournaments, I say to myself: “It’s always amazing to see these women.” It’s great to not only reconnect with women I played with in juniors and college, but also to make new friends and acquaintances. It’s truly an honor to be here at La Jolla with multiple generations who have wonderful stories and experiences to share…

The 2023 USTA National Indoor Championship was played at one of the premier indoor court facilities in the U.S. With 15 indoor courts and viewing of all courts, the setting was ideal whether playing or watching. As I start to write this article, it is the second day of the tournament and it is pouring rain outside. We do not have to hole up in our hotel rooms or contemplate shortened formats. The play goes on…a prime benefit of indoor play, along with no need for sunglasses or sunscreen…

The Westwood Senior Championships is a Level 2 tournament that is traditionally held over the Labor Day Weekend in Austin Texas.

The Westwood Country club is located in an idyllic setting adjacent to a nature preserve with stunning views of the Colorado River. Wild peacocks occasionally roam the grounds. Majestic oak trees provide ample shade and the sight lines for spectators are very good on most courts…

On Saturday, April 15, over 120 participants showed up at the stunning Columbus Regional Tennis Center in Columbus, Georgia. With 39 har-tru courts, 14 hard courts, and 4 pickleball courts, it is arguably the premier public clay court facility in the country…

It’s not often in life that you get the chance to represent your country in anything. In age-based tennis, the ITF World Team Championships, part of the Masters Tour, is our amazing opportunity to do so. This year, “Worlds” was held in Antalya, Turkey from March 19 - 24 and I, along with 19 other women, had the incredible honor of representing the USA to compete against countries from around the world…

It was another wonderful week at the 52nd National Senior Women’s Clay Court Championships! Houston Racquet Club rolled out the welcome mat with delicious daily lunches and breakfasts, banquets and happy hours, beautiful locker rooms and facilities, and well-kept clay courts…
